oil on canvas

NARRATIVE | My first exposure to modern-day cultures in the African continent was through a photography book called The African Ark. I was blown away by the diversity of traditions, fashion, and artistic expression within a small region known as the Horn of Africa (the spot highlighted in yellow on the silhouette of Africa in the background), which inspired this piece. In the center is a young lady from Eritrea, decked out in fine jewelry. Her hands cradle silhouettes that represent people from her region. The original oil on canvas is lost or stolen. It was last displayed at Uhuru Stylz, 2012 S. 39th St, St. Louis, MO 63110 by store owners Erika and Kelly Wimbley. |
